Rumson / Fair Haven

Rumson is a borough located in Monmouth County, New Jersey adjacent to the easternmost town of Sea Bright which is on the Atlantic Ocean. Rumson is a charming town located on a peninsula surrounded by the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers. Rumson is connected to Sea Bright via the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge and also to the Locust section of Middletown, via the Oceanic Bridge. The borough of Rumson is approximately 25 miles away from NYC and easily accessible by the Sea Streak Ferry out of Highlands or Atlantic Highlands, NJ. By car, NYC is 53 miles away from Manhattan. Rumson borders the towns of Fair Haven and Little Silver with Red Bank, a Central Jersey jewel, close by. Rumson’s population in 2018 numbered 6,780 people and has grown substantially since its incorporation in 1907.

There are many noteworthy restaurants in Rumson including Undici, Salt Creek Grille, Barnacle Bills, Ristorante Giorgia, Victory Park Tavern, Val’s Tavern, and Surf BBQ. Most of these restaurants have a lively bar scene and some offer live musical performances featuring talented Jersey Shore musicians. Each restaurant is unique and offers delicious fare for every palate.

If you crave sweets visit Cups and Cakes or Crazies, a popular ice cream shop, always abuzz, all summer long.

Rumson also boasts some fabulous delis that always seem to be busy such as The French Market, Butlers Market, Brennan’s Deli, and the Atlantic Bagel Co.

The schools in Rumson are excellent, some with Blue-Ribbon Status, and are the reason why so many flocks to the town. The public schools include Deane-Porter (PreK-3rd), Forrestdale (4th-8th), and the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (9th-12th). There are excellent private school options as well: Holy Cross Academy (PreK-8th) and The Rumson Country Day School (PreK-8th).

There are many fun activities in the Rumson area. One of them is tennis at the Sea Bright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club, the oldest grass tennis club in the United States. Hiking is also very popular with trails located in close-by Hartshorne and Huber Woods. The ocean and rivers offer swimming, boating, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, kayaking, sunbathing and so much more. Victory Park is a lovely park for both children and adults, situated on the Navesink River. Golfing is a popular past-time, especially if you are a member of the Rumson Country Club which boasts a wonderful course and beautiful clubhouse, hosting many special events.

Rumson is home to several houses of worship: the First Presbyterian Church, Saint George’s Episcopal Church, Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, and the Congregation B’Nai Israel. All four have a thriving membership and are involved with community service projects.

Some historic structures in Rumson include the Oceanic Free Library and the recently refurbished Bingham Hall and Memorial Borough Hall and Court House.

Many of the homes in Rumson are simply exquisite, making it a sought after central Jersey residence that doubles as your “main house” and “shore house” at the same time. Historic stately homes blend perfectly with new construction and the town definitely has much to offer for everyone!
